RISE 2019 – Regional Healthcare & Connected Communities

April 5 @ 6:00 pm - April 6 @ 6:00 pm

Regional Healthcare & Connected Communities

RISE is a two-day event that will give individuals the opportunity to pitch their ‘brilliant idea’ for health innovation in regional Australia. In only three minutes, each budding entrepreneur can present their health idea. Participants made up of high school students, UNE students, innovators, entrepreneurs, microbusinesses, programmers, regionally based health operators will select their favourite idea and join the team.

As the annual flagship event for the UNE SMART Region Incubator in Tamworth, RISE began in 2018 and explored the theme of Regional Tourism.

In 2019 the theme is Regional Healthcare & Connected Communities. The purpose of RISE is to engage diverse talents in problem-solving challenges within our communities and to develop solutions that can grow into opportunities for more innovative practices in organisations or as startups. The startup methodology of human-centred design-thinking is used to bring forward rapid prototyping of ideas. RISE 2019 is an opportunity to transform regional healthcare and build connected communities through creative collaboration between healthcare professionals, providers, consumers, students and technology creators.

RISE runs Friday evening and all day Saturday, and is a startup event that will provide participants with the opportunity to pitch their ‘brilliant idea’ for health innovation in regional Australia. Tamworth is located centrally in the New England North West and Central Coast regions. These regions have a population of 920,000 people that are served by the Hunter New England LHD and Hunter New England Central Coast PHN.

The four priority health areas of the Hunter New England Central Coast PHN are: Aged Care; Mental Health; Aboriginal Health and Healthy Start at Life.

Problem statements drawn from these four priority health areas will be developed up in advance for the RISE regional health event. Participants will select their preferred problem statement on the first evening, and teams are formed to develop up and pitch solutions to the health priority areas on the second day working together using a human centred design approach.
