About the EMERGE 2020 Program:
As the demand increases for publicly funded research to transform problems, generate innovation and make solutions, we are here to support you with a lively and safe place to better understand the possibilities and processes that connect research outcomes to the generation of impact, and commercial opportunity.
The Researchers EMERGE Pre-Accelerator Program 2020 is designed specifically for researchers (HDRs, academics and research teams) and new founders who are ready for a fast-paced program to accelerate their research ideas, and pursue commercial or community opportunities to create impact, and start your own enterprise.
The EMERGE Pre-Accelerator Program will be delivered by our experts in residence, Gary Morgan and Ian Mason, in August and September 2020 for up to 15 people, in an intense 3-week program. EMERGE 2020 will be held at UNE in Armidale.
By attending EMERGE 2020, you will be able to:
- Identify your research or product market need;
- Validate the market need and market fit;
- Identify value in research partnerships to build the business;
- Understand how to develop a business with revenue and pricing models;
- Pitch your startup idea;
- Create a pathway of the next steps for your startup
EMERGE 2020 concludes with a Showcase Event, where you will pitch your research or products to a network of industry and research leaders, potential partners, and the media.
About UNE SMART Region Incubator: The UNE SMART Region Incubator is a friendly, focused and connected space built to join regional businesses with growth potential together with academic research, business mentors, corporate and community partners. The SRI works across the New England North West with offices in Armidale, Tamworth and Moree.

About Gary Morgan: Gary Morgan is an insight-led strategy and innovation expert with a focus on business and innovation strategy and commercialisation. Gary is director at MPT Innovation Group and Innovator in Residence at the UNE SMART Region Incubator. Gary’s expertise covers health tech, aged care, agtech, agribusiness and robotics.
About Ian Mason: Ian Mason brings an entrepreneurial and human-centred approach in helping organisations drive innovation and development. Ian is Founder & CEO of Rainbow Bridge Education and Expert in Residence at the UNE SMART Region Incubator. He is also the Global Entrepreneur in Residence at QUT. He was previously Co-creator at Virgin Startup. Ian’s experience spans FMCG, food, retail, finance, and government.
