Coding Challenge – Armidale & Tamworth
October 17 - October 18
Cisco Coders Challenge
Proudly presented by Cisco ANZ in collaboration with University of New England SMART Region Incubator
Teach the future generation about opportunities in the IT industry through a day of problem based learning and fun activities. Technology is a very important and constantly evolving aspect of our lives today. The Cisco Coders Challenge will encourage more young minds to gravitate towards a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), maybe even at Cisco!
Throughout the course of the day students will be given insight into programming technology, how it affects our society and the benefits of learning about technology.
Students will also be:
Taught the basics of programming, and the skills they need to pursue further education in programming.
Challenged with the opportunity to work as a team to program a robot and overcome a problem.
Mentored by Cisco team members who will coach and guide students on any questions they may have related to technology, programming, computing or networking.
Students will work in teams where they will be given a pre-assembled Makeblock Ultimate 2.0 robot and a laptop with the Makeblock programming application. A challenge description will be provided which requires students to program the robot using a graphical programming language called mBlock.
Challenges may include:
Using the robot arm to pick-up and sort out items.
Programming the robot to navigate through an obstacle course.
Using the robot to take 3D scans of items.
Cisco mentors will be there to guide the students on their journey to ensure they have a fun, fulfilling and challenging day.
